Tour of M-Sport
In the latter part of 2016 the club arranged for some members to visit the world famous M-Sport HQ. The day of adventure finally arrived on Friday 26th March 2017 when two car loads boarded the Ferry from Belfast and travelled to Scotland before a spirited drive down to the factory.
We are sure that most of you are well aware of their heritage but, in the interests of those with little knowledge of this racing team, here is a bit of background info.
M-Sport is an auto racing team based at Dovenby Hall near Cockermouth, Cumbria, England, United Kingdom. Formed in 1979 by the former WRC driver Malcolm Wilson, and originally known as Malcolm Wilson Motorsport, the team has had varying success running cars in several rally championships. Since 1996, M-Sport has prepared and run the official Ford World Rally Team cars in the World Rally Championship and since 2014 the company also is the official Bentley Motorsport outfit, competing in the Blancpain Endurance Series.
Luckily, or not as the case may be, Ken Block was also visiting at the same time on the same day. This was unlucky only in the sense that some areas were even more tightly controlled with further restrictions than normal meaning that we missed out on getting up close on a few occasions. However this circumstance has lead to a well produced video being recorded while we were there and means we can include that for you to watch rather than our own iPhone efforts! You can see our transport chariots in the car park in the form of the nitrous blue MK3 Focus RS and the Solar Orange Audi RS6.
Below are a few of our amateur snaps from the day.
